Anyone else using amino acids to correct brain chemistry during detox and recovery? Our program at the Sacramento Probation Department's Adult Drug Court has been using the books The Mood Cure by Julia Ross, Depression-Free, Naturally by Joan Larson, PhD, and End Your Addiction Now by Charles Gant, MD as our bibles to provide nutritional supplements as well as organic wholesome food to our program clients daily. We'd love to network with others using food and nutrients as a part of treatment. Carolyn Reuben, L.Ac., Community Addiction Recovery Association (CARA), http://www.carasac.org

Hello,

I have personally been to Julia Ross's program in Northern CA. I met with the nutritionalist, followed the recommendations, spent thousands of dollars on the supplements and the program, and had the following results:

1. I gained 40 lbs over 6 months

2. I completely lost control over my food addiction

3. I was completely and utterly depressed

4. I lost a significant amount of money

I say this because this "Mood Cure" or "Diet Cure" is NOT for everyone...and can cause damage to those of us to do not need this type of treatment. PLEASE be careful when perscribing this to all of your clients. My guess is that not all of them need it. I had been in recovery for over a decade when I used this program 2 years ago. I am an Addiction Specialist and have worked in the field for over a decade. I have a Master's degree and am well aware of the roll neurotransmitters play in addiction and recovery.

Please be aware of those clients who do not respond well. It may not be their addiction that is getting away with them...it may be this method of 'rocovery' that is forced upon them. I do understand that it works for many, I am only recommending that you take into account that it may not work for everyone.
